Returning home after two weeks in the South of France, I felt entirely transformed. My first morning at our private villa in the Alpilles set the tone for the entire trip. I stepped onto the cool stone terrace as the scent of wild lavender hung heavy in the warm air. Then, a profound silence settled in, broken only by gentle morning birdsong.

This carefully curated journey was split between the rustic, slow-paced interior of Provence and the dazzling, high-energy coastline of the Côte d’Azur. Over fourteen unforgettable days, I personally scouted more than a dozen historic villages and dined at world-renowned culinary institutions. I toured the region’s finest five-star properties and uncovered several spectacular hidden gems off the beaten path.

Beyond the classic postcard clichés, this region captured my heart through intimate, sensory moments. For instance, I found a village so rich with local artisans and boutiques that I needed a second suitcase. I celebrated a milestone birthday dancing under the stars in Saint-Tropez. At a historic family perfumerie, I formulated a highly personalized signature scent. And on the way to an extraordinary Michelin-starred feast, we took a breathtaking sunset drive winding through limestone cliffs.

The South of France is served by two main airports: Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) for Provence, and Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE) for the Riviera. If you are planning a trip that covers both regions — as I would always recommend — the classic routing is to fly into Marseille and out of Nice (or vice versa), which eliminates backtracking entirely.

From the United States, most connections go through Paris (CDG), where Air France offers excellent connecting service to both Marseille and Nice. Alternatively, I often route clients through London Heathrow, Barcelona or Amsterdam depending on their origin city, as the connections can be more convenient.The TGV high-speed train from Paris to Marseille or Nice is also a wonderful option if clients are combining the South of France with Paris. It takes under three hours and drops you in the heart of the city.

WHEN TO GO

When is the best time to visit the South of France

To experience the region at its most enchanting, we strongly advise planning your journey during the shoulder seasons: late April through mid-June, or September through early October. During these windows, you will enjoy exceptionally warm, sunny days, brilliant photographic light, significantly thinner crowds at major sights, and far more favorable rates at premier luxury resorts. Visiting in late April, I found the spring blooms breathtaking and the popular village squares blissfully peaceful.

July and August represent the absolute pinnacle of the Mediterranean summer season. While the energy is undeniably glamorous and the beach clubs are in full swing, these months bring heavy crowds, peak pricing, and intense heat. If you have your heart set on seeing the legendary Provence lavender fields in full purple bloom, plan your visit between late June and mid-July. Secure your reservations at least nine months in advance.

For a completely different perspective, the winter months from November through February offer a quiet, deeply authentic look at local life. In Provence, this is the coveted black truffle and cozy wood-fire season, perfect for slow days of culinary indulgence. Meanwhile, the Riviera enjoys a mild, sunny, though socially quiet winter, with several iconic coastal palaces remaining open to welcome guests seeking peaceful sanctuary.

1. THE ALPILLES REGION
The rugged limestone peaks of the Alpilles range serve as the dramatic, beating heart of inland Provence. This is the ultimate landscape to begin your journey, characterized by silver-green olive orchards, white rocky ridges, and a painterly late-afternoon light that has inspired artists for centuries. We highly recommend basing yourself here for your first three to four nights to fully absorb the relaxed, rustic rhythm of the countryside.
2. LOURMARIN
★ HIDDEN GEM & BEST SHOPPING
Of all the villages I visited across two weeks in the South of France, Lourmarin stole my heart completely. It sits on the southern edge of the Luberon hills. Unlike the most-visited Provençal villages, it hasn’t lost its authenticity. Real residents, real life — a rhythm that visitors are invited into, not kept at arm’s length from.
The shopping here is exceptional — the best I found anywhere on the trip. You’ll find local artisans selling olive wood bowls and hand-stitched linen, beautifully edited French fashion boutiques, and market stalls piled with local honey, lavender, and seasonal produce. So, allow a full morning or afternoon to properly explore. In particular, the Friday market draws locals from across the Luberon and is worth building your schedule around.
3. ROUSSILLON
Famous for its striking ochre cliffs, Roussillon looks like a village painted from a warm, saturated palette of reds, oranges, and deep yellows. Wander through the vibrant streets, then take an easy, scenic walk along the Sentier des Ocres trail. Marvel at the dramatic, naturally sculpted clay canyons just steps from the town center.
4. GORDES
Perched dramatically on the foothills of the Vaucluse Mountains, Gordes is a breathtaking sight of stacked stone houses rising up to a majestic Renaissance château. We consider the legendary Airelles Gordes, La Bastide to be the crown jewel of accommodations here. Even if you’re not staying overnight, stop by for a leisurely lunch or sunset cocktails on their panoramic terrace.
5. MAUSSANE-LES-ALPILLES & BAUMANIÈRE
This tranquil, olive-producing village serves as the gateway to one of the world’s most legendary dining destinations: Baumanière. Located in nearby Les Baux-de-Provence, a scenic sunset drive through towering limestone canyons brings you to this historic estate. Booking well in advance is essential to secure a table at their three-Michelin-starred restaurant, an unforgettable culinary journey under the stars.
6. L’ISLE-SUR-LA-SORGUE
Often referred to as the Venice of Provence due to the scenic canals and historic waterwheels that thread through the town, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is the undisputed antique capital of Southern France. It is an absolute paradise for collectors, particularly on Sundays when hundreds of antique dealers set up along the water for the world-famous weekly market.
7. AIX-EN-PROVENCE
The historic, elegant capital of Provence is a city of majestic stone fountains, grand 17th-century boulevards shaded by massive plane trees, and a vibrant university culture. We fell in love with our peaceful stay at the boutique Villa Saint-Ange, and highly recommend reserving a morning for a long, indulgent breakfast in the manicured, art-filled gardens of Château de la Gaude.

THE CÔTE D’AZUR — WHERE THE TRIP TURNS UP THE DIAL

As you leave the peaceful olive groves of Provence behind and descend toward the coast, the rhythm of the journey shifts instantly. The quiet stone villages give way to sparkling turquoise waters, grand coastal palaces, superyachts bobbing in historic harbors, and a legendary, sun-drenched glamour that has defined Mediterranean luxury for over a century.

1. Ramatuelle
Before diving into Saint-Tropez, I strongly recommend spending at least two nights in Ramatuelle — the hilltop village set among vineyards just a few kilometers from the coast. I stayed at Lily of the Valley, a contemporary luxury resort that represents the gold standard for modern Riviera hospitality: elegant, private, effortlessly chic, with a sense of calm you need before throwing yourself into the glorious chaos of Saint-Tropez.
2. SAINT-TROPEZ

Beyond the major international designer flagships, Saint-Tropez offers exceptional boutique discoveries. My single most important shopping recommendation: do not leave Saint-Tropez without visiting Maison St Tropez, the exceptional perfumerie in the village. I found a scent there that I now wear every day, and every time I do, I am immediately back in Saint-Tropez.
3. CANNES
While famous for its star-studded film festival, Cannes offers a surprisingly relaxed, classic coastal experience year-round. Stroll the iconic palm-lined La Croisette promenade, shop the elegant boutiques along Rue d’Antibes, and escape the crowds by wandering the winding, cobblestone streets of Le Suquet, the city’s historic hilltop quarter.
4. ANTIBES & CAP D’ANTIBES
The historic, rampart-walled town of Antibes is a joy to explore, but the true magic lies on the exclusive, pine-scented peninsula of Cap d’Antibes. Here sits the legendary Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, a playground for royalty and artists alike, famous for its iconic saltwater swimming pool carved directly into the rugged coastal cliffs.
5. SAINT-PAUL-DE-VENCE

In other words, it’s a bit of a walk, but you do not need to take a car or shuttle to get to the city center. Collegio alla Querce is located on a hillside overlooking the city of Florence, and requires a 10-minute taxi or shuttle. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle for guests that runs on a loop. Four Seasons Hotel Firenze

The history of the Four Seasons Hotel Firenze was originally built by the Medici family and was home to Pope Leo XI at one point in the 16th century. The interior design maintains the Renaissance feel, with heavy curtains, carved wood, frescoed ceilings, heavy furniture, and a more traditional feel overall. Because of this, I think it is a more attractive option to older clients who want his regal vibe. It’s also a wonderful property for kids to be able to run around on the grounds, while parents might enjoy a cocktail in peace at one of their outdoor dining venues.

Collegio alla Querce

I personally loved the grandeur of the tiered and manicured gardens, with the large rectangular pool overlooking the front of the property, and the rooms at the back of the building with breathtaking views of the UNESCO-designated city of Florence. Because it is brand new and the floor plan was redesigned to be a hotel with modern-day amenities, rooms and bathrooms feel more spacious than at Four Seasons Hotel Firenze. The vibe here is young and hip, with chic interior design elements that still maintain nods to the boys boarding school throughout. For example, in one of the bars, the wall is lined with oil portraits of former boarding school students. So cool!

It’s ideal for large, traditional family gatherings, with special events and live music throughout the high season’s summer months. Guests at Four Seasons Hotel Firenze range in age from their 30s to 80s, with it being a crowd favorite for multi-generational families or larger groups. Because of the range of room options, there is something for everyone, from connecting entry level rooms to superior historical suites. Overall, I think Four Seasons Hotel Florence is great for families both small and large, or multiple families traveling together.

Aside from families, Four Seasons Hotel Firenze is ideal for couples as well, as you can choose between accommodations at one of the two buildings on property. The spa and wellness center is second to none in Florence. The chapel is a great place to host a private romantic dinner, or even a proposal if you’re looking for a special place in Italy to propose.

Collegio alla Querce

While I was one of the first guests to stay at the newly opened Collegio alla Querce, I noticed that many of the other guests were young couples in their 30s or 40s. I feel because of the aesthetic, it will appeal to a younger crowd, but because of its pricepoint, it will maintain its exclusivity. If you’ve been to Florence before, and you’re looking to venture into the city for some shopping or meals, but not necessarily to trek the entire city from end to end, I think this would be an ideal hotel to enjoy the grounds, with shorter stints into Florence.

Vacationing on a private island might seem extravagant, but the Caribbean offers a variety of resorts that are worth a second look. As a travel advisor specializing in the region and a mom to three kids, I’ve experienced enough private island resorts to understand what they have to offer. Whether you are traveling with your partner, the whole family, or multiple families, these resorts offer something for everyone. These five islands are my favorites.

Jumby Bay Island Looking for water sports like wakeboarding and tubing? Check. Bike rides, tennis, pickleball and fishing? Check. Villa staff who will organize karaoke nights, scavenger hunts, and pool parties for your gang? All covered. Jumby Bay Island in Antigua is refined yet relaxed, chic yet unpretentious. Nearly everything is included on the island, from meals and drinks to activities to a kids club. Plus, a buzzy new beach club and restaurant called The Hut on Little Jumby is only a three-minute boat ride away.
Ambergris Cay Ambergris Cay is a little-known secret—and it’s a great value, too. Just a 20-minute turboprop plane ride from Providenciales in Turks and Caicos, Ambergris Cay offers one- and two-bedroom beachfront bungalows that are perfect for honeymooners, small families, or solo travelers. For larger groups, the island also has villas with three to 10 bedrooms. Guests get their own golf carts and have access to the beach club, as well as hiking paths, several beaches, tennis and pickleball courts, a state-of-the-art gym and spa, and a boat charter to Hangover Tiki Bar.
Como Parrot Cay I’d be hard-pressed to find a better beach in the Caribbean than Como Parrot Cay, which is an easy half-hour boat ride from Providenciales and a celebrity favorite for a reason. Lush with pine trees and foliage, Como Parrot Cay offers diverse dining options, activities like kayaking and farm tours, and a range of stays from double hotel rooms to privately owned beachfront residences that sleep up to eight and come fully staffed. The Como Shambhala wellness center, which offers yoga, sound healing, and nutrition resets, is one of the best I’ve experienced in the Caribbean.
Mustique Island Located in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and a long-time favorite of the British royal family, Mustique has a certain mystique to it. The island offers stays at the 17-bedroom boutique hotel, The Cotton House, as well as two- to 10-bedroom villas. Don’t miss cocktails and dancing at the legendary overwater Basil’s Bar, or horseback riding at the equestrian center. Mustique is worthy of a trip of its own, but it can easily be combined with the nearby islands of St. Lucia, Barbados, or Martinique.
Moskito Island At Moskito Island in the British Virgin Islands, expect a thrilling, activity-packed vacation. Guests can rent a handful of villas with up to nine bedrooms each. Celebrate big with a daytime waterslide and a nighttime DJ . For water sports fans, there’s kitesurfing, tubing, and wakeboarding, Other private experiences include tennis, guided hikes, personal training, and cooking classes. Whatever floats your boat, the accommodating staff will make it happen.

Jumby Bay Island is a 300-acre private island just off the coast of the main island of Antigua. It is made up of 40 suites, 12 villas (in the rental pool) ranging from 2-5 bedrooms, and 22 residences, ranging from 4-11 bedrooms. This Oetker Collection resort is fully inclusive, meaning your nightly room rate includes everything that you would possibly need for your vacation, save for certain activities, spa services, or top shelf liquors or wines. The villas are an extension of the resort, where guests can enjoy all meals in the various dining venues at the resort. Residences are fully staffed, including chef, butler, housekeeping, entertainment, etc and have all meals prepared at the residence. Guests can enjoy meals at the restaurants, but there is an additional charge to do so. The island is quite spread out so whether you are in a suite, villa or residence, you can have as much privacy as needed. Though the residences will offer the most privacy of these options and some really feel like a boutique resort within a resort.

Jumby Bay is located in a private island just a 5-minute taxi followed by a 10-minute private ferry ride from V.C. Bird International Airport (ANU), Antigua’s main airport. ANU has daily non-stop direct flights Miami, New York and London.

Vibe at Jumby Bay:

The island is the ultimate in barefoot luxury, without all the pretense or ‘the scene’ that can be found on islands such as St. Barts. If you’re looking for table dancing and popping champagne bottles, this is not it. But if you’re looking for an easily accessible, exclusive and down-to-earth island with high-touch, friendly service, luxury accommodations, an unbeatable beach and crystal clear bay, than Jumby Bay fits the bill. It is relaxed yet high caliber, understated yet chic.

I’m hesitant to recommend this island exclusively to families or couples because I think it works well for both. While I wouldn’t send a honeymoon couple here during Christmas or Easter breaks, when the island is chock-full of young kids and possibly the world’s best Easter egg hunt, I do think that other times of the year would be perfectly suitable for the couples wanting a quiet and romantic getaway. In short, the island serves both purposes, whether traveling with a large group of friends, or even solo, there is an accommodation that will suit each scenario.

Accommodations at Jumby Bay:

Let’s start with what we booked. We were traveling with my mother-in-law, so we needed a 3-bedroom and booked the ocean view family suite – a 2-bedroom with a King primary and a queen/queen with shared living room. Of course, our son did not want to share a bed with his sisters, so we had a rollaway added to the living room. The junior suite can then be added to the family suite to create a 3-bedroom, but these are externally connected, meaning you need to walk outside to reach the third bedroom. This outdoor corridor is exposed, so you would not have total privacy for this 3-bedroom configuration (ie: it’s not an enclosed courtyard/pool area). All the family suites and junior suites are ocean view and located in the same area, in close proximity to the main restaurant and the Estate House.

Next are the Pond Bay Suites, ranging from Beachside Suites to Estate Suites. These are all located steps from the main beach, but perhaps a little further from the main restaurant, depending on your suite’s location. Important to note that all suite guests receive complimentary bicycles to the get around the island. If you’re traveling with little ones, I would probably recommend a villa or residence, as you’ll have access to your own golf carts, which is convenient. Suite guests can also call for a golf cart, but there can be a wait time for this service.

What really sets Jumby Bay apart, however, are the private residences. These come fully staffed, with your own private chef. All meals are taken inside the home, for added comfort and privacy. You may have meals in the restaurants, but for an additional cost. The residences range from 4-11 bedrooms, and are all uniquely decorated and with unique layouts. They also come with your own bikes and golf carts, and staff oftentimes provide ‘in-house entertainment’ setting up a fun itinerary that might include scavenger hunts, karaoke parties, and wild pool parties within your estate. I personally saw three residences while I was on the island, and a personal favorite was the Lost Puffin, which is a sprawling estate that feels like a boutique hotel in and of itself. Two of the bedrooms have children/nanny lofts up top, with separate bathrooms, so it this home really can sleep up to 14 people comfortably. The kitchen also accommodates a kosher diet. Calabash is another island favorite, and has 4 private villas within the estate, so it is perfect for 4 couples traveling together.

Plan my trip to JUMBY BAY

Food & Beverage at Jumby Bay:

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and beverage outlets here, given that the Caribbean is not widely known for the best food. There was plenty of variety, and breakfast could be ordered a la carte or taken from the buffet, which was relatively the same each day but was a big variety.
Lunch was offered at several places each day, and the dinner options changed each night, from dinner at the formal Estate House to a fun, casual dinner at The Farm. They had live musicians each night, and we particularly loved the steel drum band that played at The Verandah on our first night there.
We missed sunset cocktails at The Sandbar, which I heard has the best views of the sunset. We spent our evenings before dinner swimming in our family suite’s pool and reading books before dinner, but I do wish we had enjoyed one night of these sunset views…though we did have a partial view from our suite.
The recently opened Jumby Hut, a beach club and chic restaurant is just a 3-minute boat ride from the resort on an adjacent rivate island. The boat transfer is complimentary but the meals and drinks at the Jumby Hut are not included as part of Jumby Bay Resort all inclusive package. I think this is a great option for guests who are not staying at Jumby Bay who would like a small taste of the Jumby Bay experience, or for guests who are staying a week or more on the island and want to try something new. However, I don’t think it’s a necessary add-on for shorter stays. I am glad we went, but I will likely stick to the restaurants in Jumby Bay on our next visit.

Activities at Jumby Bay:

One of the best things about Jumby Bay are the included activities. Upon arrival, my kids literally dropped their bags in our family suite, quickly changed into their swimsuits, and ran down to the water sports dock where they signed up to immediately be dragged around the crystal blue bay on an innertube that would have them hurling over the boat’s wake like a flying saucer. Before I could even get sunscreen on them, I watched from the beach as they squealed with laughter at every wave, bump and donut. This lasted a good 40-minutes, and I was truly in shock when my husband reminded me that this was all included in our stay – as we sipped on drinks from our beach lounge chairs, delivered to us after pressing the service button on the umbrella stand.
Tubing, waterskiing, wakesurfing and wakeboarding were activities on repeat for our family. As part of your included amenities at Jumby Bay, tow sports are guaranteed for at least 20-minutes per room per day, in adition to open availability on a first come first serve basis.
Other included activities include snorkeling, kayaking tours, turtle watching, paddleboards, hobiecats, beginer sailing clinics a weekly sailing regatta,
On land the island features beach volleyball, multiple tennis and pickleball courts, putting green and a lap pool. The resort also offers cooking demos and rum tastings.
The island features an amazing kids club. While our kids spent most of their time doing watersports, they did have a chance to briefly visit the kids club on our last day where they made slime and had a lesson on cricket. The team was so engaging and funny, I wish they had spent more time at the kids club.

Wellness at Jumby Bay:

Many wellness activities are included with your stay, including yoga, water aerobics and a meditational sound bath. On our first afternoon, I took part in the sound bath, which took place on the wellness pavilion in the spa. Other included wellness activities are organized runs, morning stretching, core max workouts, and beach bootcamps to name a few.

On our final day, I traded in time with the family for an 85-minute hybrid massage after utilizing the steam room and sauna. My therapist was wonderful, and I highly recommend her because I hear she’s the best!

What sets Jumby Bay apart:

When most people think of All-Inclusive Hotels, it’s of the lower end, Cancun Spring Break-style massive resorts. Jumby Bay is a unique product in that they offer ultra luxury in service, accommodations, activities, and food and beverage all rolled into one easily digestible price. It is a main reason of why it is perfect for multi-generational families or larger groups. Who wants to figure out the check at the end of each meal? No one.

What’s not to love about wakeboarding, waterskiing and tubing on demand? I almost prefer to book this resort during low season, just so that you have more availability and flexibility of the available services. When booking during peak times, just be sure to work with an advisor like me to get the added benefit of getting everything pre-booked for your stay. We also love that they are building a new tennis center, with brand new tennis courts, two pickleball courts, and a half-court for basketball. The lounge will be a fun place for everyone to gather, and I suggested they create an open play time for pickleball so more games can be played amongst guests.

How Much Does it Cost?

The nightly rate in an entry level suite start at $2,595 plus tax during low season. While this might seem high, when you consider all that is included, I think it’s really a good value for the experiences and quality of food and drinks you get. I also think if you’re traveling with a large group, multiple families, or multiple couples, a large residence is a great value and truly a unique experience.

Summary of our Stay

A visit to Antigua had long been on my Caribbean island bucket list, and I am so glad that we skipped right to the good stuff. From our VIP fast track service through customs, to our luxe SUV transfer to the ferry terminal, just a quick 5-minute drive away, to the 7-minute ferry crossing to the island (and by ferry, I mean multi-million dollar catamaran), we were very pleasantly surprised by the ease at which we arrived to Jumby Bay.

Upon arrival to the open-air reception, they whisked us off to our villa, which was a 3-Bedroom configuration with our own private pool. Our kids quickly changed into their swim suits and ran back down to the beach, where they found out they had 30 minutes left to go tubing until they closed for the day.Let’s just say they didn’t waste any time, and while I listened to their squealing from the pristine white sand beach, I smiled.“This is heaven,” I thought to myself.>

Our stay was highlighted by amazing meals, endless virgin Pina Coladas and Jumby Joys, ordered straight to our beach lounge chairs with the press of a service button, and bicycle rides around winding paths, where large island lizards would scatter and the famous island sheep would graze on hills of grass.

The kids loved every minute of it and declared Jumby Bay as one of their favorite resorts of all time, and definitely a favorite for the Caribbean.The adults couldn’t agree more, and we loved the freedom the kids felt to explore safely and play with other kids, while we were actually able to read books and have uninterrupted conversation.

We can’t wait to go back, and I’m looking forward to sending many clients – and future clients – to experience the pure bliss of Jumby Bay in Antigua.

The Brando, a Private Island Resort, has long been on my bucket list for its stellar reputation as one of the travel industry’s best kept secrets. It is not only the most exclusive resort in French Polynesia, but one of the most exclusive resorts in the world. The island boast 35 villas and one 4-bedroom residence, which has its own private beach for ultimate privacy. There is a spa, newly renovated fitness center, and several restaurants to enjoy, as well as a tennis court, and paths for jogging and exploring. Guests are given bicycles for their stay, so you can come and go from your villa as little or as much as you please. One of the best kept secrets is the rooftop bar, where you can enjoy cocktails at sunset overlooking the crystalline water.

The Brando is located in Onetahi a private island in the secluded atoll of Teti’aroa, just a 20-minute flight from Papeete International Airport (PPT), Tahiti, via a private airline terminal aboard Air Tetiaroa. PPT has daily non-stop flights from LAX, SFO and SEA. In addition PPT has direct flights to Hawaii an the most extensive network of flights to South Pacific ranging from Easter Island to New Zealand.

As the most exclusive resort in French Polynesia, The Brando pairs the art of luxury hospitality perfectly with sustainability and conservation. A large part of its ethos is in preserving the delicate ecosystem of Tetiaroa, an atoll with 12 motus encircling a lagoon of crystal blue water. The island is serene, dense with climbing coconut trees, bending toward the rays of sun. The coconuts and meandering palms grow thick with moss and provide a safe haven to the diverse fauna of the island.

Unlike better known islands such as Bora Bora, Tahiti and Moorea, Tetiaroa, home of The Brando, is flat. When you arrive, you’ll assigned a bicycle, checked into your own private villa, and given as much privacy as you could ever need. While the island has a common pool, we saw little need to leave our villa throughout our stay, unless we were heading to the common areas for meals or entertainment – like the French Polynesian show we enjoyed on our last night. But bring a book, some music, and energy for relaxation because beyond snorkeling, a few boat excursions, and enjoying the beach, The Brando is just about being still.

Accomodations at The Brando:

The Brando has 35 villas and one 4-Bedroom residence, perfect for families or three couples traveling together who want their own common living room and full-size kitchen. Diego Travel clients get priority for upgrades, and we stayed in a family villa. This is the same layout as your standard one-bedroom villa, but instead of a media room, that serves as a kids’ room with a full bed, suitable for 2 children. Keep in mind that these all have one bathroom.

If you want a villa with two bathrooms, then I recommend the 2-Bedroom Villa, which has two master bedrooms, one on the lower level that is beachfront, and then a bedroom above it that is a mirror layout. The downstairs bedroom can be split into twins if needed. The bedrooms are split by an outdoor stairwell, so this villa is best suited for older children/teens or two couples traveling together.

*Important to note that The Brando villas do not come with butler service, but this can be added if needed.

Plan my trip to The Brando

Food & Beverage at The Brando:

Les Mutinés is The Brando’s fine dining experience, in a restaurant in the shape of a ship, at the center a large crystal chandelier reminiscent of The Jolly Roger in Peter Pan. We were offered a scroll, unrolled to find a tasting menu in the format of an old treasure map. The food, across the board, was primarily French, but particularly our meal at Les Mutinés.
Bob’s Bar was the original bar on the island, and while it would eventually change locations, the Bar is still the same social hub it was always meant to be, serving hot dogs, hamburgers, and a lengthy cocktail menu, including the ‘Dirty Old Bob.’
Nami is a table for 8 teppanyaki grill, where our Japanese chef prepared us made-to-order dishes that complied with each guests’ dietary needs. From tuna nigiri to Wagyu beef, our meal was delicious and even our 7-year-old tried every dish.
The Beachcomber Café serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, the main restaurant with a focus on Polynesian fare. I would have liked to see more variety in the menu, but I think for a 2-3 night stay, its sufficient.

Activities at The Brando:

We did the Tetiaroa Ultimate Tour on our first day. The boat takes you on a 20-minute ride across the glistening lagood to one of the protected motus, nicknamed “bird island,” where seabirds swoop in and out of a thick forest of trees.
From there, we got down from the boat with our water shoes (provided by the resort) to trek through a jungle path, crawling with hermit and coconut crabs of all shapes, colors and sizes. I have never experienced anything quite like this! The largest known coconut crab on the island, named Hector, by the guides from the Tetiaroan Society, made an appearance for us. This 50-year-old crab was the largest crab I have ever seen!
On another day, we tie-dyed pareos, which was a fun activity for our daughter. They learned about the tradition in the Polynesian Islands and the significance of the different colors used. What a fun keepsake and memory to take home from the trip!
Kayaking through the pass between two nearby motu was another highlight as we paddled next to what seemed like thousands of soaring birds of different species. Our guide took us by kayak through shallow waters, showing us how to carefully navigate around the rising coral so as not to damage its delicate surface. It was such a peaceful experience, and even if you’re not a kayaker, I highly recommend it.
Tetiaroa atoll is a pristine underwater sanctuary, with crystal clear waters and unmatched biodiversity. We snorkled arround a few of the hundreds of coral heads directly infront of the resort enjoying the the sight of small colorful reef fish, and sea cucumbers resting on the white sand bottom. A short boat ride from the resort takes you to the deeper part of the lagoon or the drop off outside the reef where you can snorkel or Scuba Dive larger coral formations, black-tip reef sharks and spotted eagle rays gliding within arm’s reach.
Fishing is one of the best kept secrets of the Brando. Thanks to its unique location, deep-sea fishing for Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Marlin (Blue Marlin, Black Marlin, Striped Marlin) and Dogtooth Tuna are only short boat ride away from the resort.
On my final day I took the Green Tour and I am so glad that I did. I have never seen anything like it, and it is unparalleled in the hospitality industry. Adding a $12 million dollar sea water air conditioning system (SWAC), the entire island is air conditioned using sea water and the 5,000 panels of solar that provides electricity for the island. The island also provides housing for up to 20 people, labs and a research center for PhD programs that work on different projects, in addition to the employee ‘village’ that houses the staff of 250 at The Brando. They provide machinery that converts food waste into soil, glass into powder that can be reused, and an extraordinary recycling system that allows for zero waste.

Wellness at The Brando:

I went to the spa on our first day and while my massage was incredible, I thought the experience was lacking a bit of ritual and consistency. Upon arrival, I needed to shower following a swim in the ocean. There are no bathrobes, but rather pareos, and then guests are required to walk along pathways to the bird nest-like treatment rooms. This might be fine for some, but for more modest guests, I would see where this might be problematic. There was also no relaxation area for before or after treatment, or I was not offered it if there was. There is also no place to drink water or have tea, like many spas offer. For such an exclusive island resort, I felt the spa should just offer a bit more. Again, my massage was excellent, but it might as well have taken place in our villa.

What sets The Brando appart:

The island itself is simply stunning, as the colors of the water are crystal clear and change from various shades of light blue to turquoise, to darker blues that lie beyond the atoll. The island has a dense jungle feel, and reminds me a bit of a private island in the Bahamas called Cat Cay. Ideally, I would have all of my clients stop at The Brando for two nights to experience this exclusive private island paradise.

As far as sustainability, I can’t think of another property around the world that is doing it as well as The Brando. As a guest at The Brando, you’re helping to contribute to a sustainable island resort, but also in preserving an untouched paradise for future generations of not only visitors but more important for Polynesians Islanders. While many of the staff arrive from France each year to work seasonally, many are native Polynesians, which is an important component to the fabric of The Brando.

Diego Travel Loves…

The privacy at The Brando is unique. The hotel is set on a private island within the Tetiaroa Atoll, which is itself a private Nature Reserve in the middle of the South Pacific. You can choose to socialize with other guests during many of the resort activities or at the hotel’s restaurants or choose to completely get away from it all as villas are set far apart, offering complete privacy so you can spend all day in your villa and on the beach in front of it and never see another guest.

How Much Does it Cost?

The Brando offers a Breakfast Only plan or an All-Inclusive plan. I strongly encourage going with the All-Inclusive plan because prices for meals at the resort are quite expensive. I frequently get access to promos such as Stay 4, Pay 3, which can bring the All-Inclusive plan down to around $2,000/person/night on the higher end, the 4-Bedroom residence runs around $20-30,000/night.

Luxury and family-friendly travel go hand in hand in Turks and Caicos.

I called my son, but nothing could tear him away from the window of our turboprop plane. Even though we were at 20,000 feet, the turquoise water below was so clear he could practically spot schools of fish.
This trip to Turks and Caicos had been in the works for years, after we canceled our initial plan three years before due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But now, as we landed at Ambergris Cay, a gorgeous private-island resort that had only recently opened, it occurred to me that the positive test had turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Obviously, we wouldn’t have been able to come to Ambergris Cay back then and, more importantly, my son, Mikel Kai, was 9 now and old enough to appreciate going on a solo getaway with his parents.
As we stepped off the plane, we were greeted with minty mocktails and a set of keys — we would be driving our own golf cart to our three-bedroom villa, Poseidon. As my son devoured the tropical fruit plate and freshly squeezed juice, I was already scheming to bring the entire family back for a second vacation. That evening, the two of us had a five-course dinner under the stars, surrounded by the light of tiki torches and a bonfire; a guitarist provided the perfect mellow soundtrack.
My husband, Miguel, joined us the following day, and we were off — exploring the islands by golf cart, by boat, and on foot, with long walks on white-sand beaches to collect sand dollars.
Next, we checked into the Parrot Cay and Pine Cay, two other private-island resorts reached by boat from Providenciales — or Provo, as the locals refer to the main island. After a blissful massage at Parrot Cay, I retreated to a breezy, shaded area overlooking a lagoon to read my book. I spotted a famous musician, but I didn’t want to disturb her peace or mine. I was later informed by the sales director that this was her fifth visit in six months, and that she relishes the privacy.
For the final stretch of our trip, we went to Provo. First stop: Amanyara, which offered the ultimate in luxury, with pavilions and villas ranging from two to six bedrooms, all serviced with private chefs and butlers. The wellness facility was expansive, with tennis, pickleball, basketball, and Pilates reformers. I was pleasantly surprised to find how much there was for kids to do at this property, including a sailing academy and scavenger hunts. At the same time, it was perfect for a romantic escape or honeymoons.
We also stayed at The Palms, The Shore Club, and Rock House. While my husband and son were busy kiteboarding on the opposite Long Bay Beach, I also checked out other properties along Grace Bay. Each island and resort was wonderful, and had its own appeal.
That will make it difficult to decide where to stay when I return to Turks and Caicos with the entire family.

Experts say: “The Alila is one of the only hotels on the water in the area, with a short hike down to the beach. The pool is on the smaller side, but the hotel has an adults-only vibe even though they do welcome children. I love that the spa at this hotel uses all local skincare products, and everything is organic. The property loans out bikes, so you can take your cruiser through Leucadia, Encinitas and even down to Cedros Avenue in Solana Beach to visit local shops and restaurants. For travelers on a budget, I love sister properties the Sea Bird and Mission Pacific. They’re both Hyatt Prive properties in Oceanside, located on the beach right next to the pier. The small house where Top Gun was filmed is situated right between the two hotels. Experts say: “Charleston can be experienced in so many ways, so for a babymoon, I really like the location of Hotel Bennett, which is slightly outside of the central tourist district in downtown Charleston but still walking distance to everything. They also have a rooftop pool, which is a nice place to relax after a day of shopping and dining in Charleston’s fantastic restaurants. I also love Zero George, which is a small boutique hotel that has been beautifully restored in a historical building.” – Maria Diego

Experts say: “For upstate New York, I love Wildflower Farms, a new wellness-oriented Auberge Resorts Collection property. We traveled to the Florida Keys frequently, since my parents lived there for 15 years. Isla Bella Beach Resort was a welcome addition, as the Keys were sorely lacking in luxury hotel options. Aside from Little Palm Island, which is adults only, Isla Bella Beach Resort is one of only a handful of resorts that we recommend to our clients traveling to the Keys.

While this is a nearly 200-room resort, the property is expansive, particularly for the Florida Keys, sitting on one mile of waterfront. One thing to note is that the Florida Keys does not have any natural beaches, so any sandy beaches you find will have rock retaining walls or be man-made. Fortunately, Isla Bella Beach Resort has a beach where you can wade into the water.

With the new renovation, Isla Bella Beach Resort is a premiere beach resort in Florida and the Florida Keys. With its 5 oceanfront pools, there is a spot for everyone, whether you want to remain with an adults-only vibe, or join the kid-friendly areas of the resort.

The rooms and common areas are light, white and bright, with blue nautical accents that are perfect for the tropical blues of the Keys.

ACCOMMODATIONS:

There are 14 different room and suite categories at Isla Bella Beach Resort, ranging from oceanfront balcony rooms to luxe beachside suites. They also have a myriad of connectivity options, so when traveling with multiple families or kids, there is something for everyone. We always love the beachside rooms, as you have a larger terrace and direct access to the beach and pools, whereas when you are in a balcony room, you will need to access through the hallway and elevator or stairs.

FOOD & BEVERAGE:

The Florida Keys is not particularly well-known for its cuisine. A lot of fried catch-of-the-day and a concentrated interest in beverages often referenced in Jimmy Buffet songs, my expectations weren’t high for the food offerings at Isla Bella Beach Resort. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and variety of meal options.
Mahina is their Polynesian-inspired and main restaurant, where I loved the Hawaaiian Style Ahi Poke and their crafted cocktails (for me, a mocktail!) at the bar that overlooks the ocean. They also recently opened a new dining outlet, Sushi Cabana, that seats 55 underneath outdoor palm trees and umbrellas.
The Marketplace is another eatery that provides grab-and-go snacks, drinks, and goodies to take home. In this 5,000-square-foot open floor plan building, you can grab breakfast and schedule your day’s plan at the Watersports Activity Center, which is conveniently located right on property.

ACTIVITIES:

One of my family’s favorite things about the Florida Keys is getting out on the water. I always tell people that if they’re visiting the Florida Keys for a great beach, they’ve selected the wrong destination. The Florida Keys is unparalleled for domestic boating – snorkeling, fishing, sailing, scuba diving, kayaking and even stand up paddle boarding in the Florida mangroves.
Aside from watersports activities and lounging by the pool, we always recommend a day trip to Key West and one to Islamorada. What Sets It Apart:

This resort truly makes it easy! The on-site marina is super convenient, so that you don’t have to drive off property to get to a boat. In Islamorada, most resorts will require a short drive to a nearby marina, but I really like the fact that Isla Bella’s boat charters are right there.

For families, Isla Bella is ideal for its room configurations. No other property in the Florida Keys compares, and some rooms even have a kitchenette for those extended stays when you want to have some meals ‘at home.’ Rooms have a fresh, clean feel, which you don’t get at a lot of other properties.

Request rooms somewhere near the middle blocks. You’re far enough away from the main building to avoid the noisier areas, but not too far away to walk to the main restaurants and marina.

You can do a guided run on the newly opened pedestrian stretch of the bridge that spans 2.2 miles. The guide has lived in the Keys for 14 years and while you run or jog together, he can provide insight to his favorite recommendations for the Keys.

To drive from Miami to Key West takes about 3 hours, so all the Keys can be covered in one trip. What to do

The biggest misconception about the Florida Keys is that there are plenty of sandy beaches. I hate to break it to you, but there’s not! The Keys are all about getting out on a boat for fishing, snorkeling, cruises and exploring marine and wildlife. The nightlife can be pretty great too, if you visit at the right times of the year.

Snorkeling
From Key Largo to Key West, the dive spots in the Florida Keys are numerous and plentiful with fish and protected sea life. With dive spots like Hens and Chickens or Looe Key, your best bet is to go with a guide that can take you to a spot where you will see the most fish while snorkeling. Also, there are spots better suited for children if you’re traveling as a family. We also like taking stand up paddle boards with a few masks and snorkels and swimming in shallow areas in the bayside.
Fishing
There are seasons for catching lobster and certain types of fish, and they have to meet size criteria prior to catching them. The local Coast Guard will pull you over and check your cooler, measuring each and every fish – it’s happened to us on more than one occasion – so unless you’re an experienced fisherman with a boat in the Keys, it’s best to leave it to the professionals and hire a company that specializes in fishing while you visit. An expert fishing captain will be able to take you to the right spot whether bottom fishing or trolling, and the Keys is a whole lot of water to take a shot in the dark.
Sunset Cruises and Sailing
Another option if you’re not a huge fan of fishing is sailing or a sunset cruise. I am the black sheep in my family because I am the only one who isn’t a huge fan of spear fishing, free diving and line fishing. I usually stick to the boat, unless the water is over 80 degrees or I’m getting too sea sick from rough seas to stay on the boat. Then I go in for a swim. What I love most about boats is riding at sunset, especially on a calm day. If there’s one thing you shouldn’t miss while in the Florida Keys, is catching a sunset from either a boat or the view at Pierre’s or Morada Bay (more on that later).
Marine & Wildlife Sanctuaries
If you love animals or are traveling with children, you’re not going to want to miss a visit to a Wildlife Sanctuary. While there are too many to count, the Florida Keys Wildlife and Environmental Area offers a hammock forest, coastal rock and mangroves with hiking, cycling and paddling trails. The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary in Key Largo and the Turtle Hospital in Marathon are two other must-sees and personal favorites. Plus, each time you visit one of these places, the entry fee goes toward their maintenance costs so that you can help continue their mission.

Little Palm Island

I wrote a whole blog on Little Palm Island because it’s just that special of a place. Little Palm Island is the only private island resort in the United States and an adults-only hotel, perfect for a weekend getaway, a honeymoon, or to celebrate an anniversary. With 30 suites that dot the perimeter of the island, every suite has a gorgeous ocean view. The resort just underwent a massive post-hurricane renovation and now features all-new cozy, romantic suites. The impeccable attention to every detail in its design is reminiscent of Ernest Hemingway and his era.

Isla Bella Resort

Isla Bella Resort is a new property featuring 199 oceanfront suites. It’s very rare to find a resort with all ocean views, but Isla Bella did it beautifully. With a name meaning Beautiful Island, what more would you expect? The rooms and suites are spacious and airy, decorated bright white with accents of coastal blue. They come in a variety of options, from one and two-bedroom guest rooms to suites with a kitchenette, making an extended stay very practical. What I love most are the first floor rooms that have direct access to the oceanfront sand and pools. You have your own oceanfront porch where you can sit outside, read a book, and watch guests ride back and forth on the property bicycles. These ground floor options also allow for social-distancing, as you wouldn’t need to enter through common areas like the hallways or elevators.

Isla Bella’s property is large, with a “town square” area that consists of a large marketplace with a cafe, the spa, conference space, and retail shopping with the cutest beach and resort wear and any pool toys and floaties your kids might need. One of the coolest things about Isla Bella is its Watersports Activity Center. Like I mentioned earlier in the blog, if you haven’t gotten out on the water, then you haven’t experienced the Keys. Isla Bella offers all the water sports right there for your convenience with brand new boats, fishing equipment and even jet ski and kayak rentals. They are top-notch professionals and I highly recommend a stay here just to make use of this amazing water sports center.

The Islands of Islamorada

The Islands of Islamorada are in the heart of downtown Islamorada, close to the best restaurants and shops. I toured them prior to completion and let me tell you, these luxury private villas are guaranteed to be the place to stay in the Florida Keys. Each 3-story private villa has 3 spacious king bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms plus a fourth bunk or twin room. 11 of the villas come with an elevator and the open floor plan with full kitchen, dining and living room look out to the ocean. Swoon!

The Palm Beach area owners were thoughtful in not only the interior design, but the exterior design and landscape architecture. Each villa has privacy from the others, while all guests can enjoy communal spaces like an open beach, pool, and the Ocean House bar. Soon to be completed will be a restaurant and a new area of smaller 1-bedroom beach villas. I can also help coordinate docking your boat at their private marina during your stay. You’ll have direct ocean access to get out there fishing early each morning!

This is the perfect chic destination to come with the whole multi-generational family, for an extended family vacation. Each unit has a two car garage and wash machine/dryer, so it’d be easy to stay for a month or longer. Heck, I think I might just move in.

Cheeca Lodge & Spa

Cheeca Lodge & Spa is one of the better known resorts in the Florida Keys and with good reason. With an expansive ocean view, a 9-hole golf course, tennis courts, spa and now 5 pools, they make it easy and convenient. The rooms vary widely from golf course view rooms to ocean-front suites, so tread with care and definitely use a travel advisor (that’s me!). The in-the-know professionals know which rooms to ask for, with one suite in particular that stands out from the rest. And no, I’ll never tell! I reserve that suite for Diego Travel clients. It’s also important to know that only the golf course view rooms are pet-friendly, so if you are planning on traveling with your furry family member, be sure to book this room.

Cheeca Lodge & Spa recently purchased oceanfront casitas and bungalows, formerly part of The Moorings property. These exclusive villas have their own pool, tennis court and beach (yes, actual beach! On of the few real beaches in The Florida Keys and private too). Two of these two-bedroom villas are beachfront, while the others are set back further on the property. The great thing about these casitas is that guests have access to all of the amenities and restaurants at Cheeca, but guests at Cheeca do not have access to this area. So, think of it as your semi-private VIP area but with additional resort amenities to enjoy like more pool options, golf, restaurants and of course the spa.

Where to eat?

Key Lime Pie
Let’s not beat around the bush and get straight to the good stuff – what the Florida Keys is best known for – key lime pie! You may even want to taste-test your way down the Keys. My kids and I are gluten-free, so I’d start my list with Key West Key Lime Pie Co. They ship too! Other Key West notables are Pepe’s Cafe and Old Town Bakery.
Further up the Keys is a locals’ favorite at the Green Turtle Inn, and whether you’re getting the key lime pie on the menu or anything else, you just can’t go wrong. They are the same owners of the nearby Kayo Grill and SushiKayo Grill and Sushi, that has The best sushi I have had in the Florida. Back to key lime pie though…A final mention is either of Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen’s two locations near Key Largo. The key lime pie is to die for!
Fresh Fish and Seafood
When you’re not eating dessert first, you may want to choose the catch of the day off of every menu. Atlantic’s Edge at Cheeca for a fancier dinner with killer views or Islamorada Fish Company are two favorites for a fresh catch. Some more casual, only-the-locals-go spots can be found at the Cuban restaurant Habano’s on the Creek (when you’re starving and coming back in from a fishing trip), Made 2 Order Cafe (another pull-up-in-your-boat for a quick lunch), or the Galley Grill between Key West and Little Palm Island.
Restaurants With a View
If the view is what you’re after, which you should be in the Keys, then you can’t miss these spots. Hit Morada Bay or Pierre’s for their monthly Full Moon party – it falls on the Saturday nearest to the full moon of each month. With a sunset view and an area of sand to party post-dinner, you can’t miss this monthly event. Latitudes at the Westin in Key West has beautiful sunset views as well.

The Florida Keys

The Florida Keys is different for everyone. Depending on if you want a resort that you land at and never leave, or your prefer to venture out and spend little time at your hotel, will determine the area that is right for you. My family has had a home in the Florida Keys for 15+ years, so the amount of time I’ve spend exploring each Key gives me an advantage while planning travel that is perfect for you.

Islamorada of The Florida Keys

My family’s home is located just north of Islamorada, in Tavernier. Islamorada happens to be my favorite spot in the Keys, just because I like the combination of bayside and oceanside boating there, and the array of top-notch restaurants and fun little shops. I’ll never forget bumping into Martha Stewart at Ocean Gardens where you can find Hemingway-era nautical antiques and a vast collection of hard-to-find shells. My dad wasn’t shy and struck up a conversation with her about the Florida Keys and what she loves about visiting. She told us that Ocean Gardens is always a must-see, so there you go!

Location

Key Largo is about one hour south of the southern most part of Miami, while Key West takes a full 3 hours to reach. So to drive from the northern-most key to the southern-most key takes about 2-2.5 hours, depending on traffic. The roadway is a 2-way lane, so holiday weekends can see traffic back up for hours. Locations are described by the locals as being at Mile Marker “__”, with the Key West starting at Mile Marker 0 and working its way up. So when you stop to ask for directions and you’re told, it’s at MM 87, you’ll know in which direction you need to head. It’s only North or South in the Keys!

Activities

Aside from the daytime activities I already listed, you can’t miss watching a sunset with a live band playing in the background. The Keys food is known for being fried, unhealthy, and yummy, and the drink menu plentiful. So plop yourself down at a bayside restaurant somewhere along the strip (my favorite is Pierre’s, at MM 82), order a drink, and relax. It’s also the perfect spot for a small destination wedding, which I can help you plan! Other activities I love to do with the kids is feeding the tarpon at Robbie’s, visiting the Turtle Hospital in Marathon and Theater of the Sea for swimming with the dolphins and educating them about marine biology.

Welcome to my Montecito, California luxury travel guide — built from years of firsthand visits, not just research. My husband and I used to travel annually to Santa Barbara and Montecito, California for his job. For many years, my brother lived in Santa Ynez Valley — a little-known slice of wine country and horse ranch paradise just an hour’s drive from Santa Barbara. Summers would be spent taking the kids on trail walks, pony rides, berry picking and leisurely afternoons at different wineries. For a few years, my parents rented a house for a month to gather the family and explore the Santa Barbara region. One of our favorite neighborhoods has always been and always will be Montecito.

This mountainous yet oceanfront town on the California coast is home to celebrities like Oprah and Prince Harry. Sprawling estates and impeccably maintained landscaping give it a wildly European feel. All of these factors are why Montecito is such a special destination to me and my family. What to Do in Montecito, California

Watersports & Beaches
Visiting the beaches is a must. Butterfly Beach or Miramar Beach are both popular. Although Miramar Beach Hotel services are for guests only, there is access to the beach for locals through the hotel property. Being located on the coast means it’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy some watersports like renting a kayak or trying out some surfing. Hotels like the Rosewood Miramar Beach Hotel offer equipment rental so you can get out on the water on their beaches. Santa Barbara Harbor located nearby is the perfect place to set off on a fishing trip or whale watching tour.
Shopping
Montecito is ideal for shopping lovers! There’s a range of shops, from Maison K to Mate Gallery. My favorite shop in the country is Wendy Foster, with locations on State Street in Montecito and in Los Olivos in Santa Ynez Valley.
Don’t miss the Montecito Country Mart where I found some amazing vintage Gucci Glasses! There’s also so many boutiques and shopping outlets in the hotel resorts which are well worth checking out.
Missions and Gardens
Blessed with an ideal Mediterranean climate, Santa Barbara is famous for its beautiful gardens including the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, Lotusland and Casa del Herrero. Santa Barbara is also home to the Mission Santa Barbara, a Franciscan mission founded in 1776 known as the “Queen of the Missions”.

Being so close to Santa Barbara, you can easily spend an afternoon or a full day there. Relax on the beaches, get out on the water, explore the town’s boutiques and cultural attractions, or dig into its huge range of culinary experiences. Santa Barbara has six weekly farmers markets, fresh seafood coming in daily and not to mention the range of local ranches and vineyards.
Santa Barbara Zoo
If you’re traveling with kids, the Santa Barbara Zoo is a must-visit. There’s a miniature zoo train ride, giraffe feeding and several other animal encounters to make it a memorable family day out.
Make sure to ask at your resort about activities and upcoming events too.
Wine Tours or Tasting Experience
The climate around Montecito and Santa Barbara is perfect for growing grapes and there’s a range of wineries and vineyards you can visit. Alternatively there are tasting rooms in Santa Barbara if you’d prefer to stay closer to resorts. San Ysidro offers three dining options which combine farmhouse ranch style decor with award-winning cuisine and a famous wine cellar! Dining under the twinkling lights on the terrace in summer, or by the huge stone fire in the winter, you’re guaranteed a unique dining experience that’s perfect for romantic occasions.

One of my favorite things about the property is the unique experiences they offer for guests. Their Signature Salon and Spa, Private Dining and Exclusive Wine Tasting are also ideal for couples getaways, romantic treats and special occasions. The amenities on the resort also include a heated swimming pool, fitness studio, yoga classes, live music every night and lawn games and minigolf.

The Ranch is also a great option for those who prefer a more active vacation. The resort has botanical gardens on the property to explore, plus access to 17 miles of hiking trails on their doorstep. There’s also bicycle rental and access to the private golf course at Montecito Club.

Our stay at the hotel was incredibly relaxing thanks to its beach location and the amenities on offer, plus the added bonus of six restaurants available at the property, so we rarely needed to venture far for dining. Caruso’s is the gourmet option which we were treated to on the first night of our stay and the food was just incredible.

Jeannine’s has been a Montecito institution for over 30 years. With Cafe menus serving breakfast and lunch, as well as a bakery full of cakes, scones and sweet treats, it’s great for breakfast or snacks on the go while you’re exploring Montecito and beyond.
Bree’osh Bakery Cafe
A sumptuous bakery cafe you have to visit! With pastries, buns and quiches and all available at curbside pick up, Bree’osh is an easy way to grab something to eat on the go.
They also offer baking and cookery classes if you want to try something a little different!
Honor Bar, Montecito
Open from 11 AM till late, the Honor Bar serves sandwiches, burgers, pizza and light bites during the day and also offers a great range of wines, beers and cocktails in the evening too.
With a slightly more formal dress code, this is a great option for romantic evening meals if you’re looking for somewhere outside the resort.
The Stonehouse
